Meow Parlour

Have you heard about cat cafés? Probably at some point in a documentary about Japan. But guess what — New York has one too! Meow Parlour, the city’s first cat café, is tucked away in the Lower East Side. A small, cozy space filled with thoughtfully arranged climbing and chill areas, warm light, and — most importantly — cats.

Some are playful, chasing toys across the floor; others nap in one of the many hiding spots, completely unfazed by the world outside. The best part: your visit helps support their care — and since most of them are adoptable, it also helps them along their path to finding a home.

While the cats themselves are fun to watch, play with, and pet, I have to admit — I’d have enjoyed it even more if it had been a little emptier (like in the picture taken before my booked time slot). There’s something about quietly sharing space with animals that’s best appreciated without too many people around.
