New Memories Unlocked

I’m at the airport in Frankfurt, sitting on the roof terrace under a bright blue sky with a view of the tarmac, waiting for boarding. It’s one of those in-between moments that invites reflection—and after the week I’ve just had, there’s a lot to take in.

I came to Germany for a very special reason: my friend’s surprise 40th birthday. It was one of those rare and beautiful gatherings that felt equal parts surreal and grounding. I also took the chance to see my dear family and old friends—some of whom I hadn’t seen in years. Reconnecting like that fills something in me I don’t always realize is missing.

Living in New York is exciting and full of opportunity, but it also puts an ocean of distance between me and the people who’ve known me the longest. It’s always a little sad to leave again, knowing how many hugs and conversations I have to store up until next time.

In true German fashion, the week wasn’t without its chaos: I got the full Deutsche Bahn experience—train cancellations, unexpected delays, and platform changes announced approximately 12 seconds before departure. That part I definitely won’t miss.

Still, every bit of it was worth it. I’m heading back to New York with a full heart, a slightly overstuffed suitcase, and already counting the days until I can do it all over again.
