I’ve been to the original Russ & Daughters and let me tell you their salmon (aka lox), cream cheeses and of course bagels are something else…

I was a bit confused about the store’s front sign which shows the word ‘Appetizers’ in the name. But once I looked up the meaning, it completely made sense.

‘Appetizing’ is a Jewish food tradition, particularly local to New York and New Yorkers. This noun is most easily understood as ‘the foods one eats with bagels’ with its primary components being a variety of smoked and cured salmon, homemade salads, and cream cheeses.
